Well that was a year and a half wasn’t it!
Running has been a bit of a saviour over the past 9 months for me.
When it’s all felt a bit overwhelming, running has been there.
When I’ve needed some headspace, running has been there too.
When I needed to grieve, running was a way to release some if the emotions.
When I felt angry, running helped manage the frustration.
When I just needed some fresh air running was my go to.
I owe running a lot.
It’s not all been doom and gloom though. Far from it. I’ve been so fortunate to be surrounded by like minded women at She Runs: Cardiff who have supported and lifted me up when I’ve needed it. The challenges have been awesome in providing a positive focus and discovering new parts of Cardiff I had no idea about.
I’ve discovered a love of trail running and found lots of routes of the beaten track. It’s such a nice change from running the same routes all the time.
I’ve somehow managed to gain more medals than in a normal year as well. Virtual challenges have been another great way to stay focussed on my running.
As we enter 2021 it’s time to look forward.
I’m turning 40 this year so I’ve entered a 40 mile ultra marathon in June to mark the occasion. It’ll be my biggest running challenge to date. If I’m honest it feels well out of my comfort zone but the training plan is just about drafted and I know that’ll help. Time to focus and find out what my body, and mind, can do. Bring it on!
What are your plans for 2021?
