Around the ‘Diff  in 31 days

What a month August was…in running terms anyway.

I’m part of a social running group called She Runs: Cardiff. Our August challenge (we have them monthly and they’re loads of fun) was ‘Around the ‘Diff in 31 days’. The aim was to visit as many of the places on the bingo card, twenty four in total dotted all over the city.

I don’t know about you but I’m a creature of habit and tend to run the same routes all the time. It’s probably a bit dull but there’s a convenience around knowing roughly how long a run will take you if you’re pushed for time….which I seem to be, in the weeks anyway.

This challenge was great at making me think about different routes and different places to visit. It also made me realise that, yet again, there is so much of Cardiff I’ve not explored.

There were also a lot of places I knew but would traditionally drive to, most often if we’re out as a family. It was a pleasant surprise to realise some were not actually that far on foot.

The longest run I did was 15 miles with friends up to Castell Coch, which is right on the outskirts of Cardiff. It was my furthest run ever and you have to climb a huge hill to get to the castle. I thoroughly enjoyed the run and made me start to wonder whether I could go further still. My shortest run to get to one of the places was 0.3 of a mile. A bit of a difference!

Castell Coch

I didn’t manage to visit all the places but I’m going to aim for some of the ones I missed over the next few weeks and revisit some of the others as well.

Here’s how I got on.
